Sergey Timoshenko (cymbals)

Timoshenko Sergey Valentinovich was born on August 3, 1983 in the town of Shumilino, Vitebsk region. Studying with the teacher Skorinova E.I. in the class of cymbals at the DMSH, G.P. Shumilino became a diploma winner at the I.I. Zhinovich Republican Competition in Bobruisk.

During his studies at the Vitebsk State Music College named after I.I. Sollertinsky (1998-2002), in the class of teacher A.V. Bykova (dulcimer), he became a laureate of the International Competition named after V. Gorodovskaya in Moscow and the republican competition in Molodechno. Also at this time, as a member of the ensemble of cymbalists "Garezlyya perazvony", he became a laureate of numerous international and national competitions and festivals.

As a student of the music college in 2001, he worked as a soloist of the Rositsa Trio (Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic). As a member of the trio, he became a laureate of international competitions and festivals. In 2003, he entered the Belarusian State Academy of Music. He studied cymbals in the class of Professor T.P. Sergeenko, and Conducting in the classes of Professor G.A. Ermochenkov, Professor B.S. Chudakov, and Associate Professor V.M. Chernikov. In 2005, he was hired by the State Folk Ensemble "Svyata" ("Belarusian State Philharmonic") as an instrumentalist soloist. As a member of the Svyatta ensemble, he conducted active concert activities in the republic, near and far abroad. During his studies at BGAM, he was a member of various collectives and conducted active concert activities.

After graduating from the BGAM in 2008, he was assigned to work at the Vitebsk State Musical College named after I.I. Sollertinsky.

He has been working as the head of the folk group "Orchestra of Belarusian Folk Instruments of the Vitebsk State Musical College named after I.I. Sollertinsky" since 2010. In 2013, the orchestra won the 1st prize at the IV International Festival-Competition of Children's and Youth Creativity "New Wave of Ideas-2013" (Bulgaria). In 2016, he won the first Prize at the II International Competition "Welt der Musik". In 2021, he became the winner of the first prize at the IX International Competition of performers on folk instruments "Art-Dominant" (Kharkov).

Sergei Valentinovich's repertoire is huge, including works of various genres, styles and eras. With great interest and enthusiasm, Sergey Valentinovich makes his own performing versions of works written for other instruments, thereby enriching the repertoire for cymbals.
